In an exercise of the inevitable it is now official. Aaron Judge is the 2017 Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year award winner. He garner every single first place vote and even the folks from Boston could not pass this time around. It was that much of a landslide. The result; Aaron Judge unanimous ROY winner. However, another thing to notice on the ballots is the rookie pitcher Jordan Montgomery finished fifth in the voting albeit a very distant fifth.
Judge is the second Yankee to win the award in unanimous fashion. The other was Derek Jeter in 1996. That makes Judge the ninth Yankee to win American League Rookie of the Year. For a complete list of New York Yankee Rookie of the Year award winners you can check out that information here.
Yes it is true Judge struck out over 200 times as a rookie but he also led the American League in home runs (52), runs (128), and walks (127) while batting a solid .284 with an OPS of 1.049. That is an impressive rookie stat line and a shining star in the making.
