Gleyber Torres

Position – Shortstop
Born – December 12th 1996
Bats – Right Throws – Right
Height – 6’1” Weight – 175 lbs
Acquired – Aroldis Chapman trade with Cubs
Major League Roster By – 2018

It is hard to believe he was just one piece of the deal that sent Chapman to the Cubs (and now back in NY as a free agent). He was a top-20 or 30 ranked prospect last year and will probably be a top-five MLB prospect this year. Defensively he has incredible range and instincts coupled with a big arm that can throw out runners from the hole. He is plus in every defensive category.

As he grows and his frame matures his offensive numbers are becoming beyond impressive. He was the MVP of the Arizona Fall League and showed a tremendous feel and eye for the strike zone. The shocking piece is that he is finding power. Power for Torres is not limited to the home run. With a little more seasoning and maturing he can easily become a Gold Glove short stop that hits .275-.285 with 25 home runs and 65 extra base hits. Now that is a beautiful thing.
